The project, the work and the conference - FailSpace
“FailSpace — also known as Cultural Participation: Stories of Success, Histories of Failure — is an AHRC-funded research project exploring how the cultural sector can better recognise, acknowledge and learn from failure, particularly when undertaking work intended to diversify and grow the people who are taking part in subsidised cultural activities. The project is led by Leila Jancovich (University of Leeds), with David Stevenson (Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh), Lucy Wright and Malaika Cunningham.” - taken from the Failspace website.
As research dissemination becomes increasingly important, we were assigned the task of creating videos to explain our work as this groundbreaking project neared completion. Collaborating with David, we carefully determined the most effective approach to ensure the accurate communication of his and Leila’s research findings. This first video serves as an introduction to the project in its entirety, do enjoy.
Together, these three videos serve as a comprehensive research showcase, offering an introductory overview and delving into broader concepts. Lengthy or complex research papers can be difficult to comprehend, but these videos provide an effective means of breaking down ideas and making them easily accessible for sharing.
As part of our brief, we were required to not only create the videos, but also familiarize ourselves with the tools and materials used in the research. This knowledge was essential in enabling us to effectively convey the information in our videos. In particular, this video takes a more lighthearted approach and explores the fascinating materials provided in the research packs in a playful and engaging way.
Finally, this video captures the culminating event and thoughts of the research project - the conference held at Queen Margaret University which drew attendees from across the British Isles. With its impressive turnout, the conference featured a variety of workshops, talks, and group activities designed to facilitate discussion of the work led by the Champions and its impact on their respective creative arts projects.
