Dame Prue Leith at Queen Margaret University - Women’s Entrepreneurship

Queen Margaret University often hosts wonderful and inspiring events with amazing guest from all around the world. This time, Dame Prue Leith was invited along for a two day event; celebrating women in business and the adversities they have to face. Prue -being an expert herself- gave her time, wonderful advice and some funny anecdotes.

Day One

The first day consisted of a fireside chat with Dame Prue Leith and Carolyn Currie- Carolyne being QMU’s first Entrepreneur in Residence. With a lovely introductory chat outside of the Halle; everyone got in the spirit and discussed what it means to be female within the entrepreneur world. With some brilliant QMU start-ups like S’wheat and Fodilicious, people got a really good sense of what support the university can provide along with a good business ethos.

“Prue and Carolyn will be sharing their journeys and discussing the challenges facing women, how they overcome them, take their businesses forward and put an end to the ongoing gender gap in enterprise participation.” - Queen Margaret University

Once having moved inside, Carolyne interviewed Prue about her career, side projects and entrepreneurial escapades. With some brilliant stories and good, personal, advice the talk was a wonderfully informative Q&A session. With students, business women and other interested parties asking many questions we saw some brilliant discussion surrounding perseverance, starting up and the environmental future of food.

Day Two

Day two was a little more relaxed, seeing Prue talking to soon-to-be Home Economics teachers about early food education. Our objective for this Q&A was to capture student engagement and document the event for social media and other digital platforms.

It was an absolute pleasure for us at Naka Media to cover this event as we knew many of the guests but also found joy in connecting up with other small businesses. We found the talks and Q&A’s informative and may have been taking notes.

If you are interested in seeing more images form this event they are on the QMU website and have been distributed by them on social media.
